New Castle, DE is was originally settled in 1651 right on the Delaware River; both making for a very cool place to visit. Each time we go, summer or winter, we have dinner at Jessop's Tavern, originally built in 1674. After an awesome meal, we take a stroll along the Delaware River, only a few blocks from the restaurant.
If you ever find yourself traveling through Delaware, New Castle is worth a stop to view the original cobblestone streets, colonial architecture and a meal at Jessops or one of the other colonial style restaurants in the area.
